Spicy food at Mama Thai

I wanted to write about Mama Thai since a while, because I have been there many many times. As a Thai food lover (not a real one because I don’t eat too spicy), it is a real pleasure to have all these dishes in a beautiful environment. The restaurant, located on Street 352 has a charming building where you can enjoy outside seating on top of koi fish or on the first floor on the Thai triangle pillow mattress. I find the latter not so comfortable while dine-in but great for a relaxing moment. Of course, there are also private rooms and aircon rooms.

We ordered the basic dishes which is for example the papaya salad with salted crab, some of us can eat spicy but not everybody so we decided to take one less spicy. A blend of acidity, salty and sweet… It was delicious!

We ordered a soup and a vegetable with our meal and we choose the Tom Kha Gai one with chicken, lemongrass, mushrooms and coconut milk. Like many Thai dishes, it is sweet and sour, some people might not like it as the soup is quite creamy.  For the vegetable, we opted for a kind of fried Chinese Kale… Yes there were some Chinese influenced dishes in the menu. Chinese are everywhere.

To be in line with our traditional Thai experience, we ordered the famous Pad Thai, the stir-fried rice noodle fried with tofu, chicken or seafood. It was actually good but far away from the best Pad Thai I ate on the street in Bangkok. Oh Bangkok street food, I miss you.

End the meal with a yummy durian sticky rice, the best is during the fruit season which is starting in April until June. But the dessert is available the whole year…. and it’s a must-try!

Really good value for money, but same with all Asian restaurant, it is better when you are at least 4-5 people so you can try many dishes and don’t waste any. We got for around 12-15 dollars per person.

Go for spicy this weekend!
